“Recite the Qur’an and weep. If you cannot weep, then make yourself weep, and make your voice melodious in reciting it. Whoever does not make his voice melodious, he is not one of us.” [Sunan Ibn Majah (1337)]
Although this hadith is graded Da‘eef (Weak), scholars differ slightly on its strength; some consider it Hasan (Acceptable) due to supporting narrations. Others classify certain chains as weaker, but the meaning is supported by many authentic reports about خشوع (humility) and crying out of fear of Allah.
The hadith does NOT mean fake crying for show (riya’). It means reflect deeply on the Qur’an, think about your sins, about death, and the Hereafter to train your heart to become soft. Beginning with effort and forcing oneself can lead to sincerity.
The virtues of crying for the sake of Allah are great, e.g., will not enter the Hellfire. Set an intention to cry for Allah in every salah. Put effort to cry by focusing on the meanings and reflecting on them. You can NEVER cry if you do not TRY TO CRY.
